They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
After a one-night stand led to two pink lines, I tried to tell him.
I really did.
But when his ailing mother needed him back home, I knew I couldn't make him face that impossible decision. I told him to go, and he left. Taking my heart with him.
Years of unanswered phone calls, letters, and text messages lead to a half-decade apart. Now, our daughter is asking questions I can't even begin to answer, but I know who can.
So, heart in my throat, I pack up our entire life and move a state away to confront the man I haven't been able to stop thinking about.
Here's to hoping he doesn't slam the door in our faces.
